And one of those ways is to explain… a certain thing… so you can stop it. And give people a future at all.
For a while I worked for a three-star Army general. And whenever some Christian did something heinous to innocent people he’d come by my desk.
And when I say “come by my desk,” I mean he was part ninja: he would just appear in my side chair, and ask WHY?
He’d do this because he knew (a) I’d been in ministry and (b) I would say something either true but snarky or snarky but true.
One time early on he ninja-appeared, asked WHY — but don’t give me a pat answer: tell me what ministers tell each other when this happens.
I said Sir, we say Them fuckers need Jesus.
The general snorted. Then he paused. Then I gave him the real answer. The four reasons this happens. Took about a minute flat.
He blinked three, four times, stood up, threw down a smoke bomb and disappeared. And from the ether I heard him say You should write that down.
I did. I showed the first draft to my dad (who trained hundreds of ministers and who wrote two dozen or so books for pastors) who said You have to do something with this. You have to. There’s nothing like it in the world.
So I am doing something with hit. I’m giving it to you. It’s called Combat Theology: How to Weaponize and De-Weaponize a Religion.
In case you want to know why some people kill for God. And you want to stop them.
