Cassidy Steele Dale forecasts and contextualizes the present to equip us to make a better, kinder future…
… and one of those ways to show you ways to subvert religious conflict because the future needs everyone alive, educated, contributing, and kind.
Ever see someone who had blood on their hands and a hymn on their lips? Ever see someone do something heinous in the name of God and wonder how they got that way? Ever ask what their pastor — or their favorite political commentator — had been telling them that turned them so bad?
My five-second answer is simple — if you want to radicalize a person or a church, just do this:
Every day, in every way, say “The wolf is at the door.” Swap out wolves as needed.
While that may be glib (but true) my better answer is a longer one — there’s four ways to turn a religious tradition toxic, awful, or worse — and I’ve put it in a short e-book that I’m giving you for free. It’s here. It’s called Combat Theology: How to Weaponize and De-Weaponize a Religion.
It’s a PDF file. It’s about 25 pages long. It doesn’t take long to read because weaponizing a religion is a pretty simple thing. It’s a sin. De-weaponizing a religion is hard.
It’s all at the link. Read it. Skim only the red text if you have to. Then send this newsletter to who needs to see it. You probably know five people who need this. Maybe more.
And even if you’re not terribly interested in any of that, then you might get a kick out of this: two of Jesus’ twelve disciples originally were faith-based terrorists. Jesus talked them out of it. Seriously.
