This is very important for liberals to understand, and something that I've had to come to terms with - our friends in cammo and those who support them genuinely in their heart of hearts believe that they are the ones upholding the law, and it has nothing to do with racism for them. So the question still remains, how do convince them that upholding the law and being compassionate are not mutually exclusive? That message just isn't getting through to anyone.

YES! True and extremely well said. But they ARE wrong in their descriptions/perceptions of migrant/liberal motives. And why is the cause of that misperception not fear of the other at its core. THEY are dirty, THEY'RE food smells bad, and so THEY have shit-hole cultures.
Plus never forget, many of them really do enjoy being cruel to other human beings. There are a lot of sociopaths among us who enjoy terrorizing and abusing their family and their neighbors, and would cheerfully join (and probably have joined) ICE so they can terrorize and abuse even more people. They don't see anyone other than themselves as important or truly human.
